Pitlochry & Loch Tay
Today we traverse Highland Perthshire, passing through the pretty village of Killin and along the shores of Loch Tay, with fine scenery all the way. Pitlochry is an ever-popular destination with its Victorian charm and just the right mix of shops, cafes and attractions. Away from the bustle of the village centre, you won’t find anywhere more pleasant and peaceful than along the banks of the River Tummel. We return via Crieff, St. Fillans and Loch Earn.
Glen Coe & Loch Ness
We head north from Tyndrum, stopping at the Black Mount to look back at the majestic landscape of mountains and lochs that we have just left behind. Then on over the wilds of Rannoch Moor and through Glen Coe to reach the coast at Loch Linnhe. We follow the coast towards Fort William and Spean Bridge. After a brief stop, we follow the Great Glen (the huge geological fault line that splits the Highlands in two), and the route of the Caledonian Canal to reach the head of Loch Ness at Fort Augustus. Here you may wish to take a guided cruise on the loch to search for Nessie, or just watch boats navigate the canal locks. After lunch we head back with a stop at the Commando memorial above Spean Bridge, affording views towards Ben Nevis and the Mamore mountains.
Lomond Shores & Inveraray
After breakfast we head to the beautiful town of Inveraray on the shores of Loch Fyne. Here you may wish to visit the castle, home to the Duke of Argyll, or perhaps experience what prison was like in times gone by at Inveraray Jail. There are plenty of shops and eateries to sustain you, and a walk along the waterfront is a real delight. Next, we travel to Loch Lomond Shores, a popular destination with a range of shops and facilities. Here you can visit the SEA LIFE Centre and Aquarium or even take a cruise on the loch to experience the true beauty of the largest inland loch or lake in the UK.
